My Baby Hates Their Car Seat!
One of the biggest complaints that brings new parents to my chiropractic office is their child’s dislike of their car seat. Whether a few days old or a few months, the persistent and frequent crying that comes with each car ride is enough to have parents begging for help. While it's difficult to tell for sure, I can take a good guess that your little one doesn’t care whether you bought an Eddie Bauer seat or an Evenflo. They don’t care about fabric, or colour or features. What they do care about is how their back feels when they sit in their seat.
Imagine for a minute the last time you threw your back out. That sharp pain that stops you from taking a deep breath and the spasm that limits your from bending, sitting or standing comfortably. Now imagine having back pain and trying to sit in your car for 30 minutes without moving. Chances are you’re cringing right now.
In many research papers, chiropractic has been shown to be effective in the management of colic. Birth is a labour intensive journey for mom and baby and it is very common to find strained muscles and joints in newborns as a result. Infants don’t have our stress or our physical demands and as such, they often respond very fast to treatment. In some cases we have seen up to a 75% improvement in crying, sleep and car seat tolerance with as little as two chiropractic treatments. For the worriers – infant chiropractic is not like adult chiropractic! It is gentle, light-touch therapy that in many instances the children sleep through.
So the next time your friend or a family member has a baby and they mention that their new baby hates their crib or their car seat, consider recommending a chiropractic assessment.
